Many Hopes was founded in 2007 and is a non-profit organization that seeks to care for, provide a home to, and educate girls in Kenya who have been abandoned or exploited. \u00a0Mudzini Kwetu, the home where the girls live, is a home, not an orphanage, and the girls who live there are raised as a family until they decide to leave and begin their independent lives. \u00a0Girls also receive a full education so that they can be empowered to choose their own paths in life after they leave Mudzini Kwetu. \u00a0 In addition to the girls’ home and school, Mudzini Kwetu also grows fruits and vegetables onsite, runs a sustainable tilapia farm, and provides clean drinking water for the surrounding neighborhood and community. \u00a0Many Hopes operates on a 100% model, meaning that 100% of the donations made to the girls go directly to the girls; operational costs are raised separately. \u00a0 Many Hopes now has chapters globally, run largely by volunteers, and is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
Kathleen became involved with Many Hopes about a year ago, inspired by the organization’s commitment to raising girls in a loving environment, where they would be allowed the opportunity to pursue their educations in a safe place. \u00a0She is particularly enthusiastic about the organization’s commitment to empowering the girls of Mudzini Kwetu to be the next generation of leaders in their own country. \u00a0Donations made to Many Hopes support education and basic living needs for the girls.<\/p>\n
