Many Hopes was founded in 2007 and is a non-profit organization that seeks to care for, provide a home to, and educate girls in Kenya who have been abandoned or exploited. Mudzini Kwetu, the home where the girls live, is a home, not an orphanage, and the girls who live there are raised as a family until they decide to leave and begin their independent lives. Girls also receive a full education so that they can be empowered to choose their own paths in life after they leave Mudzini Kwetu. In addition to the girls’ home and school, Mudzini Kwetu also grows fruits and vegetables onsite, runs a sustainable tilapia farm, and provides clean drinking water for the surrounding neighborhood and community. Many Hopes operates on a 100% model, meaning that 100% of the donations made to the girls go directly to the girls; operational costs are raised separately. Many Hopes now has chapters globally, run largely by volunteers, and is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Kathleen became involved with Many Hopes about a year ago, inspired by the organization’s commitment to raising girls in a loving environment, where they would be allowed the opportunity to pursue their educations in a safe place. She is particularly enthusiastic about the organization’s commitment to empowering the girls of Mudzini Kwetu to be the next generation of leaders in their own country. Servants for Haiti was incorporated in 2005 as a child-sponsorship program, and supported numerous children with living expenses, uniforms, books and tuition money. After the earthquake in 2010, the board decided to refocus on business development, trade and higher education and housing.
Andrew has been involved with Servants for Haiti since 2010, and had the opportunity to travel there on a mission trip in 2011. The poverty and need is great, but the people are hard-working and creative. With a helping hand, the rising generation of Haitians will have the opportunities that have been absent there for generations.
